Synonyms and Antonyms
We’ve been focusing on synonyms and antonyms, while learning about a thesaurus (both the paper and electronic versions). Our Ghioni Gems are in the process of creating a PowerPoint to implement what they’ve learned. These amazing presentations will be available to view later next week.
Dictionary Skills
We’ve also been brushing up on our dictionary skills. This week, we focused on how to put words in alphabetical order when the first two letters are the same, as well as using the guide words to help us locate a variety of words.
The District Writing Assessment
We finished the District’s Writing Assessment this week. Your child was asked to take notes, while watching a video and after reading an article, about the defenses of animals. Next, they used the information in their notes to write an essay about how animals’ use their defenses to protect themselves. The scoring results of these essays will be used to see how well writing is being taught as an overall district, and to help guide my instruction for informational writing.
Reading
Currently, we are learning strategies for how to read intensely. As your child reads at home, please remind them to figure out the confusing parts, make sure their book isn’t too hard or too easy, note important things to talk about later, and read as if they are “in the book.”
Our first “STAR STUDENT” was Aiden. He shared about his interest in Pokémon, his family, and the adventures he had over the summer. We look forward to hearing about Emma next! 🙂
Here are the kiddos who were in the “Spotlight” the last couple of months.

As you know, The Ghioni Gems have been learning about the different types of energy, and how it transfers from one object to another and from one state to the other. Each child’s room was combined with other rooms to make a whole house. Last Thursday, your kiddos had an opportunity to share their knowledge about energy with other students who came to observe and learn.
Here’s a sneak peek at our Pizza Party on Tuesday. The kiddos earned this party after walking a total of 693 laps! They walked more laps than any other class. Way to go Gems!!
Thank you PTSA!!!
Thank you to all of the parents who came with us to learn about The Gold Rush Museum and The Seattle Underground! 🙂
WHAT A BEAUTIFUL DAY FOR THE WALKATHON!!
We are well into our unit on fractions. Currently, your child is learning how to compare fractions with uncommon denominators.
The Ghioni Gems’ science presentations and boards were exceptional! There was a lot to learn from one another.
